West Point Digestion System WWTP
Name: West Point Digestion System WWTP
Location: Seattle, Washington
Status: Current
Type: Waste Water Treatment Plants
Owner: King County
Engineer: Carollo
West Point Digestion System involves mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controlsystem upgrades to improve the wastewater solids digestion system. The work includesinstallation of: a digester feed preheat loop and heat exchanger; digester feed flowmeters; digester liquid level sensors; Digester 4 and 5 gas flow transmitters; grinders;and valves and actuators to enable Digester 6 to be used as an active digester.Improvements are located all over the West Point Treatment Plant. Some mechanicaland piping work will involve connections into 'live' digested sludge lines. Constructionmust be performed during specific, short timeframes while the solids system is taken outof service to minimize the risk of system upset. The work also includes extensivemodifications to the hardware and software of existing operational Programmable LogicControllers (PLCs). Work also involves digester gas piping systems on Digesters 4 and5. Digester gas constituents are primarily methane (approximately 55%) and carbondioxide (approximately 40%).
